Blue Knot Software is a company of one, started when I found that there wasn't software for the things I wanted to do, or I needed several steps (or even several programs) to accomplish what I had in mind.
I got myself a programming language (It was DOS Turbo Pascal 7 back then) and started to create the programs I wanted. Some of them turned out very well, and I made them available to the general public. Those DOS programs are no longer widely needed, and have passed into history. But the new programs follow the same guidelines I set for myself at the beginning:
- Easy to use -- familiar controls and online help
- Well documented -- for the power user or the novice
- Many features -- Bells & Whistles come standard... everything option I could think of has been thrown into these programs (without creating a 'Swiss army knife'
- No Critical Features Disabled -- I myself hate crippled software (I once tried a word processor 'shareware' program that couldn't save, print or copy to the clipboard--useful, eh?) All unregistered versions of my programs are fully functional and not time-limited.
- Unobtrusive reminders -- The real difference between the registered and unregistered versions is the word 'Unregistered' on the captions, splash screens, and 'about' screens. Small reminders that it is unregistered and to register if you like it. (I have been acused by my testers as being 'too gentle', but I'd rather have you register because you like my programs than feel I nagged you into it.)
