If you use a computer connected to a projector to demonstrate anything, Marconnit makes it easier to direct your audience's attention to specific parts of the screen by highlighting or marking up items, enlarging the image or adding text to whatever other program may be on the screen.
I teach part-time at a local community college. Many of my classes are in a computer lab where I demonstrate on a computer connected to a projector. In the past, when I wanted the students to look at a particular part of the screen, I generally had to waggle the mouse (or a laser pointer) around--drawing invisible circles--until they were all looking where I wanted them to look. I wanted a better way.
If you want a better way, check out Marconnit. Marconnit freezes the screen and allows you to draw directly on it (as if you had taken the screen into a paint program,) and highlight text too (screen shots.) The effect is seamless--the screen you are working with is replaced by an exact still copy. To your audience, it looks like you are drawing directly on the other program's window.
It's also great for marking up screenshots and saving them for future presentations!
Features Include:
- Variety of tools: Pen Highlighter, Shape Highlighter, Pen Marker, Shape Outline Marker, Straight Lines/Arrowheads, Text, Magnifier, Eraser, Area Eraser--all customizable!
- Choose your own colors - up to EIGHT each for the highlighter, marker, and straight line/arrowhead tools
- Set three preferred widths of highlighter, marker and lines--1 to 36 pixels wide
- Sits in the system tray until you activate it with a double-click or by pressing a customizable hotkey from the keybaord
- Change tools and control options while drawing with the keyboard, pop-up menu, or floating toolbar
- "Zoom in" on parts of the screen (you can then highlight and draw on the enlargement)
- Multiple style text entry tool
- Undo or erase parts of your drawing (restores the original screen)
- Return to your other programs with a keystroke (Esc) or double-click; or clear your drawing and start again just by pressing Enter
- Draw with a variety of cursors to suit your mood, purpose, and audience. Over 70 built-in cursors automatically change to match the current color you're drawing with, and can be flipped horizontally and vertically
- Save your highlighted screenshots with a keystroke, or load presaved images to draw on. New! Save Screenshots and enlargements to BMP or JPEG format!
- Use like a chalkboard/whiteboard: draw on a solid color screen
- Free-floating enlargement window--magnifies the area under the cursor. Use in drawing mode or by itself
Yeah, I could keep talking about it, but you already know I like it, right? So here's what one of my customers had to say:
"OK, I have to admit, Marconnit is one of the coolest, easiest tools to use that I have come across in a long time.
I just sit around thinking up new ways to use it now.
In fact, when someone comes over to my desk to review something, I start making outlines and boxes and arrows and highlights, etc. etc.
It is just so, so cool. Thanks. Worth every penny."
Not convinced? Try it for yourself!
(1528k, zipped)
Requires VB6 Runtime Libraries.
New in this Version:
- Save screens and enlargements to JPEG format. Full JPEG quality options suported
- New font selection method. 'Preload Fonts' is eliminated, making the program and the text tool load faster.
- Detects Windows Explorer crash and recreates system notification tray icon
- If equipped with second monitor, Marconnit does not draw on second monitor (projector must be showing main monitor image) This will be addressed in v6.0
- If screen settings are at 256 Color depth or less, highlighter tool will not function properly. Switch to at least 16-bit color (High Color)
- If you 'undo' the magnifier tool, the eraser tools do not work properly (to be addressed in a future version)
